KOCHI: The Department of Revenue Intelligence stopped an attempt to export ivory and other wildlife articles from the city on Monday.

On the basis of a tip-off, the DRI team confiscated a pair of elephant tusks, weighing 10 kg each, four deer horns, one bison horn and one tahr horn. Except for the elephant tusk, all other items were found to have been prepared as trophies, with horns still attached to animal heads.

The objects were recovered from a car parked in a ‘pay-and-park' spot at Palarivattom at around 1.30 p.m. and one person named Eldho of Mararikulam was also detained. The DRI officials put the value of materials confiscated at around Rs. 10 lakh in the domestic market.

The objects and suspect were later handed over the Department of Forests officials at Kodanadu for further investigation.
